IAP / BET are training programmes for those aged 25+ who have been unemployed in excess of 18 months and can last either 13 or 26 weeks. The aim is to assist unemployed people back into employment.
The design of the programmes is extremely flexible, allowing for a variety of training options and the emphasis of the programme is to recognise the aspirations of the customer and to develop a training plan that is most suitable for them. Elements of the programme can include training in motivation, confidence, communication, interview techniques, as well as help with compiling a CV, completing application forms and writing letters of application.
Long term unemployment poses its own barriers and various issues need to be identified and addressed quickly. This will initially be done on a one-to-one basis and training will be adapted to suit the individual requirements. Fully trained staff members are available at all times to assist with jobsearch.
IAP is a 13 week programme and follows a structured pattern with the following options being covered:
- Core training which consists of Job Seeking Skills, Communications & I.T.
- Specialised training which consists of Health & Safety, Warehousing, Energy Efficiency and First Aid.
- The option of participating in Work Placement or Work Experience, in order to improve employability skills.
- Voluntary work.
BET is a 26 week programme to assist the 25+ age group, who as well as being long term unemployed, have additional barriers to overcome. The pace is more measured than IAP and clients are given more individual attention. The training element and work placement opportunities are similar to IAP.
IAP / BET are mandatory programmes of New Deal if you are 6 months unemployed. To find out if you can join before then, contact your local Jobcentre Plus office. |
